Healthy Hips, Pain-Free Life: What You Need to Know

hip painMost of us don’t think about our hips until they start causing problems. Maybe you’ve noticed stiffness after sitting through a long workday, or perhaps that weekend tennis match left you with more than just a competitive spirit.

Hip pain is becoming increasingly common, and it’s not just affecting our older population.

More Than Just the Basic Ache

Your hips are remarkable structures that bear the brunt of almost every move you make. “The hip joint is actually very stable compared to a shoulder,” explains Dr. Camac. “But it can wear down over time since we use our legs and hips for walking, and most of our gravity is centered around that area.” This constant use makes our hips vulnerable to various types of discomfort.

That nagging ache could be coming from several sources. While arthritis is a common culprit, especially as we age, other conditions like trochanteric bursitis (inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs on the hip’s outer side) or tendonitis might be the real source of your discomfort. Sometimes, even your everyday habits could be contributing to the problem.

Getting the Right Help

Recent research supports what many patients already know—chiropractic care can make a significant difference. A 2021 study in the Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association found that chiropractic adjustments improved both range of motion and pain levels in most participants. Not surprising when you consider how interconnected our body’s movement systems are.

Simple Steps for Healthier Hips

Whether you’re dealing with current hip issues or wanting to prevent future problems, several approaches can help. Regular movement is key; even simple exercises like clamshells can strengthen the supporting muscles around your hips. Proper warm-ups and cool-downs can help maintain hip flexibility and stability for active individuals.

Young adults often benefit from addressing ligament laxity through specific movements and stabilization techniques, while older adults might find relief through gentle mobility exercises and proper joint care. The key is finding the right approach for your specific situation and lifestyle.

How appropriate this arrived today. I'm coming in this evening to see Dr. Garcia regarding my HIP PAIN. I thought is was my S1 joint, but wondering if it's something else now since the pain is shifting toward the front now.
